  • The moon 🌙 is the goddess of water. Water is the nectar that interacts with the other elements and is considered the mother of all tastes.

Every medicinal herb and food substance has a specific taste the moment it hits your tongue (if your tongue is dry, you can’t taste accurately). Each taste; sweet, sour, salty, bitter, astringent, and pungent is made up of the five elements of nature: air, either, fire, water and earth.
.
The SWEET taste is made up of EARTH 🌎 and WATER 💦 and gives us strength, longevity and vital essence. It balances the vata and pitta doshas and has qualities that are cooling and usually heavy. Examples: whole grains, fruits, vegetables, dairy, mint, honey.
.
The sweet taste improves our skin, complexion, reduces inflammation, and promotes the growth of plasma, blood, muscles, fat, bone, marrow and reproductive tissue.  If you have inflamed, red, burning skin or are challenged by a rash or acne, eat melon and then rub the rinds over your skin for immediate relief.
.
As we move into the pitta season ☀️ consider adding fresh mint 🌿 to your sweet fruit. And remember, fruit makes a great snack! All fruit should be taken away from meals, never combined with other foods as fruit gets digested first and can cause other foods to putrefy and create malabsorption, digestive imbalances and ama, toxins. .

As a busy mom, I’m all about simple recipes that don’t take a lot of time but that have a powerful nutritional impact! This is one of my favorite breakfast recipes, especially as we move from the winter, cooler months, into warmer weather.

The pitta dosha benefits from cooler foods that have a sweet taste and let’s face it, sometimes you just don’t want a hot bowl of oatmeal on a warm summers day!

Chia seeds are related to the mint family and are considered a whole grain which means they will disperse and provide sustainable energy all day. One ounce, about 2 TBSP give you 4 grams of protein, 11 grams of fiber plus lots of magnesium and vitamin B.
