  • Oh T U R M E R I C 🌱
you are now a buzz word and I love it! // two swipes left 👉🏻 🤣

I had an amazing opportunity to visit a biodynamic farm where they harvest and dry ginger and turmeric root among other herbs.

They either sun dry the roots or place them in big ovens // one swipe left 👉🏻 Any chance to be with, in or around earthly elements like herbs, flowers, oils, and food makes me a happy girl! The earth provides us with what we need to live, love and thrive. What can you do to preserve her beauty?

Nothing! Unplug. Meditate. Be Still. Turn off the lights. Turn off the a/c. Open the windows. Avoid doing laundry and dishes.
Happy Earth Day! 🌎 ❤️ #earthday #turmeric #ginger #farm #nature #herbalism #herbalist #herbs #ayurveda #ayurvedallas #dallasayurveda #biodynamicfarming #preserve #reuse #recycle #lessismore #compost
  • Your body will tell you exactly what it needs if you are still enough.

Day 3 of our spring cleanse. Getting quiet is never easy, especially in our modern world. I am a mom, wife, friend and I own my own business. Sometimes it’s never quiet and and I’ve learned to love those moments too. ❤️
.
When I cultivate time for stillness, even if it’s just for 5-10 minutes at my meditation space or maybe during my yoga practice, something magical happens. 💫 I hear better, see clearer, I’m a better mom, wife, friend and intuitive healer.
.
You have the innate ability to heal yourself. Yes, Ayurveda teaches us that you are that powerful. You just have to stop, just be, still, quiet and listen.
.
What does being still look like for you?

  • Changes in the season ask us to adjust, not just our closets but our refrigerators and pantries.
.
Kapha is predominant in the spring when the climate is damp, cool and wet. This could lead to congestion or heaviness. When we are balanced we feel light, can manifest our desires as we come out of the hibernation of winter, and can see things with more clarity and vitality.
.
We can tend to our kapha by eating a diet that consists of fresh whole foods that are warm, light, and dry such as legumes, fresh veggies, and spices.
.
Barley is one of my fav! grains during this time of year as it’s light, dry and a diuretic - helping to clear fluids from the body and improves sluggish digestion. I’ve been playing around with different ways to incorporate it this season.
.
For BREAKFAST: you can buy rolled barley and replace your oatmeal in the morning for a light, energetic start to your day. Remember to add spices while cooking!
.
Here’s a recipe I made this week for LUNCH or DINNER and pairs well with a side of cooked legumes or sautéed veggies! 🥦🥕
.
🌱BARLEY SPINACH PESTO🌱
soak 1 cup of whole barley in filtered water for 10 minutes. bring 3 cups of water to a boil.
.
in a food processor blend 1/4 cup of pine nuts + 2 garlic cloves + blend for 2 minutes.
.
add 2 bunches of fresh spinach, stems removed, 1 cup of your choice of fresh herbs (cilantro, chives, basil, peppermint, lemon balm), 1 cup of olive oil, pinch of salt to taste + blend until incorporated, adding more olive oil as needed.
.
add rinsed/soaked barley to water and cook for about 15 minutes on medium heat or until water has evaporated.
.
fold 4 TBSP of pesto into your cooked barley, adding more as you desire. Reserve remaining pesto as a topping for meals throughout the week - it’s yummy on sautéed or steamed veggies!
.
Enjoy!

  • Kapha season has begun and that means it’s time to practice Garshana! ✨
.
.
.
Garshana is a Sanskrit term for dry-brushing using raw silk gloves, dry wash cloth or a brush.
.
.
This is a great cleansing and invigorating practice that exfoliates the skin and allows your abhyanga oil to penetrate more deeply.
.
.
.
This practice increases circulation, improves lymphatic movement and supports ama removal.
.
.
It’s great for those who are challenged with cold hands/feet, cellulite, and varicose veins. As well as those of us that have more kapha prakruti/vikruti (or for anyone) prior to abhyanga.
.
.
Before you shower, with dry skin, simply use long strokes over the long bones and circular motions over joints and stomach. All directions toward the lymph nodes. After, shower or you can apply your doshic appropriate abhyanga oil. Happy Spring 🌸

  • Spring is amongst us and is considered the Kapha season, which brings with it the elements of earth and water, a wonderful time of cleansing, warmth and nourishment as the cold months of hibernation give way to sunshine and new growth.
🌸

The qualities of Kapha are moist, cold, heavy, sticky, dense, smooth, and soft. Kapha gives us stability, support, and makes up the bulk of our bodily tissues. If we become imbalanced in the Kapha season, we may see symptoms such as loss of appetite, congestion, allergies, weight gain, water retention, lethargy, depression, and attachment. So how do we live in a way that is harmonious and balancing to these symptoms?
Eat only when hungry, and take in lighter meals, especially at dinner time.

Eat foods that are well-spiced with things like black pepper, mustard seeds, fenugreek, cloves, anise, ginger, lemon, and turmeric.

Include cleansing veggies in your diet such as Brussels sprouts, cabbage, dandelion greens, chard, spinach, kale, arugula, and asparagus.

Drink teas to stoke the Agni and awaken the mind: ginger, tulsi, warm lemon water, or CCF tea.

Incorporate seasonal fruits as they become available; apples, pears, berries, and dried fruits are yummy this time of year!
🌸
