Ayurvedic body therapies are a significant part of the healing process in Ayurvedic medicine and originated from ancient Indian traditions. These therapies are called “rasayana” therapies and are rejuvenating, cleansing and purifying to the mind, body and spirit. They replenish the nervous system, nourish the dhatus or bodily tissues and build ojas, the immune system. In addition to being balancing and rejuvenating, these therapies are also lovingly relaxing and stress reducing. Herbalized aromas and oils are used to support individual care.

Benefits of Rejuvenation Therapy:

decreases stress + anxiety + fear + depression

improves insomnia + sleep disturbances

decreases chronic + acute pain

promotes Self love

increases energy levels + strengthens the immune system

purifies the body and mind

Abhyanga

The word for “oiling the body” in Sanskrit, is Snehana, which means “TO LOVE”. Unique to Ayurveda, this treatment moves the vayus or “winds” that govern the physical and subtle body channels. When functioning harmoniously, they assure the vitality and health of our body and mind. This treatment balances the chakras or subtle energy channels within allowing for a feeling of deep peace, clarity and perception.

Abhyanga is traditionally practiced with two therapist with choreographed sequence of rhythmic strokes utilizing customized herbal oils to deliver nourishment to the tissues (dhatus), relaxation to the muscles and calmness to the mind and nervous system. The benefits of this treatment are endless: improves sleep, and circulation, reduces dry skin and gives the skin a beautiful soft glow, increases ojas (immune system), and brings nourishment to all tissues in the body. Because each body type is unique, the oils are blended with specific herbs to meet your personal needs. The specialized movements of Abhyanga (abee-yan-ga) is designed to correct the movement of Vata Dosha throughout the body, stimulate the movement of lymphatic fluid and release toxins from the tissues.

Shirodhara

Shirodhara

This is a simple, yet profound treatment that works specifically on balancing and stabilizing the activity of the mind. Warm, brahmi sesame oil is continuously streamed over the Ajna Chakra or third eye, taking the participant on a journey deep within. Shirodhara is the signature treatment for all nervous system, insomnia, anxiety, tension, depression and mental disorders. Read more about this treatment below and on our blog.

Marma

Marma

Marma points are called bindu – a dot, secret dot or mystic point and like a door or pathway, activating a marma point opens into the inner pharmacy of the body. Touching a marma point changes the body’s biochemistry and can unfold radical, alchemical change to produce exactly what it needs including physical, mental, emotional and spiritual healing.

Marmani are similar to acupressure points and treatment is less invasive than acupuncture as they are treated using finger pressure and touch. This supports the doshas to return to their natural state and allows the energy, prana or chi to flow naturally throughout the body.

Marma therapy is an important tool for preventing and treating imbalances in the mind, body and can support neuromuscular aches, chronic and acute joint pain including back and neck pain, lack of energy, general weakness, headache, nervous tension, stress, anxiety, insomnia, hormonal imbalances and depression. It enhances immunity and is a complete rejuvenation therapy for the body and mind.

Clients can expect to lie comfortably on a massage table with support for their lower back and neck. Reiki energy healing, essential oils, gemstones may be used during this treatment to support the unique needs of the client. Tuning forks are also incorporated on each marmani being treated. The vibration of the tuning forks at specific marmani adds the element of sound healing and deeper relaxation. By the end of the treatment, you feel refreshed, calm and connected.

Marmani is a self-care protocol and my goal is to teach as many of my clients how to use this technique at home. For example, if someone has sinus issues, allergies, anxiety or stress, you can learn how to stimulate points that will unblock the sinuses or help to immediately bring relaxation and help you to feel at ease. Clients love learning how simple and easy marma therapy is to use!
