  • Ayurveda gives great importance to seasonal changes because it’s a science that is built on circadian rhythms. Vata season is officially here and this is a period of transition and to know and live ayurveda means you are supported our bodies’ need to stay in tune with nature’s intelligence. .
VATA .
Vata holds the energy of air and ether (space) elements and governs movement, coordination of thought, nerve impulses, breathing, pulsation of the heart, creativity, and flexibility.
.
If your mind is active and imaginative, if you’re detailed-oriented and on-the-go, then you might have a Vata constitution.
.
Vata moves like the wind and changes direction often so a lack of consistency in schedule disturbs a vata’s internal energy (Prana). This leads to anxiety, nervousness, feelings of overwhelm, lack of follow through, insomnia, and dry skin.
.
However, when Vata’s internal energy is stable and regular routines are in place, Vata becomes inspired, focused, accomplished, and productive.
.
As this Vata season settles in and the air becomes cool and dry, focus on creating routines and structure. Increasing warming spices such as black pepper, nutmeg, ginger, cinnamon and cardamom are helpful. .

  • Meditation 🧘‍♀️ is one of the most important daily practices for our mental and physical well being. My practice has ebbed and flowed. From being single, with a consistent morning practice to becoming a new mom and meditating while breast feeding or feeling to exhausted to find the time.

Judgment is NOT a part of self-care and I’ve had to learn to let go what it’s suppose to look like and the perfectionism of all of it.

Instead ask yourself, “what do I need today, in this moment?” and allow yourself the freedom to decide what would support you the most in this present space.

Sure, a consistent routine and regularity is important when establishing a new regimen but life isn’t always going to allow us this.

So, what do you do when life gets in the way?

Me: use my intuition, give myself grace, practice compassion, understanding and remembering the benefits and good results of my practice to keep me motivated and inspired.

What about you? ❓

  • How do you eat? Ayurveda’s ancient science teaches us that how you eat is more important than what you eat.

Here are some healthy eating practices:

Keep a regular eating schedule with at least 3-6 hours between meals without snacking to allow digestion to complete and Agni to kindle.

Eat mindfully, in a sattvic environment with no phone, computer or TV. Eat in silence or with those you love with light and positive conversation.

Eat with a calm mind and heart. Pray, say a mantra and bless the meal and all the hands that brought it to you.

Use your senses; look, feel, smell your food before you eat.

When you’re cooking, take in the aromas and sounds but avoid eating while you’re cooking - tasting food begins digestion and will inhibit digestion of the actual meal itself.

Chew well and slowly and wait for the burp - a small burp means you’re done which is about 75 % full.

Before you move on to your next activity, take a few breaths, acknowledge how you feel and walk away feeling satisfied. Perhaps take a short walk in nature.

Creating a relationship with our food supports health and wellness and prevents dis-ease - body, mind, spirit. 🙏🏻 Try these out and let me know how you feel!!

  • Fall is officially here - even though it doesn’t feel like it quite yet in Dallas! We are ready and welcome the Fall with open arms! 🍂
.
As the leaves start to fall and the air becomes cool and dry, so does our body. The Vata dosha brings the qualities of air and ether (space)
.
Ayurveda is a science that thrives on prevention and during the airy Vata season, I like to make sure my daily dinacharya, or daily practices include using my Neti Pot and Nasya oil!
.
@barakaneti Neti Pot and Neti salt are my favorite to use! They hand make all their pots in small batches and are absolutely beautiful! Their salt is super fine and infused with essential oils to prevent cold and flu symptoms. Their quality salt is specialize with a specific type of iodine salt so you can remove nasal gunk without any burning sensations or pain
.
After Neti Pot, I recommend applying Nasya oil in each nostril to protect and lubricate your nasal passages. Our Nasya oil is a must for every day use even if you are not doing Neti. It’s also a great practice to support keeping our mind calm. Just apply a drop of Nasya oil into each nostril to protect you against pollens, pollutants, viruses and stress! A must have for this upcoming season!! 🍁

  • Do you embrace the qualities of the Pitta Dosha?
.
The Pitta Dosha holds the energy of the fire 🔥 and water 💦 elements and while its principal quality is heat, it is also light, slightly oily, sharp, and unstable
.
Pitta is the force responsible for the strength of our intellect and governs the digestion, absorption, assimilation and metabolism of any sensory impression
.
If you have a primarily Pitta constitution, you’re more courageous, ambitious, goal-oriented, productive, and a natural leader with good public speaking skills, you are naturally friendly and a go-getter
.
When the qualities of pitta rise in excess, they are prone to acne, loose stools, inflammation, anger, sharpness, resentment, criticism, and jealousy
.
If Pitta predominates in your constitution or during the pitta season, you will find benefit with cooler foods, spending more time in nature, not over-scheduling yourself, going to bed by 10pm (no working late) and taking time to appreciate the joys of life!
