Yoga poses for digestion

Ayurveda teaches us that the 3 Doshas can accumulate in specific body areas. The abdomen, lower back, and upper thighs are the major regions of the vata dosha.

Because Vata is prone to constipation, bloating, and gas, poses that compress the pelvis are healing, including forward folds, seated or standing, and any poses that engage the lower back and thighs.

Pair these four wonderful yoga poses for digestion with the CCF Tea:

  1. Standing forward fold | Uttanasana – This posture targets the three body spaces where Vata accumulates. While compressing the belly to release toxins, this pose allows you to lengthen the lower back and stretch the upper and inner thighs.
  2. Seated forward fold | Paschimottanasana – Enter this pose with care and intention, remember that the focus is not to reach for your toes but to lengthen your spine. Use a blanket or block below your knees if your back or hamstrings feel tight.
  3. Seated twist | Matsyendrasana – This pose, and any other twist, will help massage abdominal organs and stimulate agni or digestive fire, which allows you to digest food efficiently. By practicing this posture, you are also encouraging blood flow into your digestive organs.
  4. Knees to chest | Apanasana – A simple Yoga pose you can do even from bed. Make sure you allow your torso and head to fall heavy while pulling the knees into your chest.
